February 10, 11:30am-1:00pm (room 5105): Professor Karl Steel (English) will present at our Works-in-Progress series.

February 23, 4:30 pm (room 5318): Presented by the Advanced Research Collaborative, this talk by Professor Sara McDougall (French/History) This talk will address illegitimate children and their families in Medieval Europe, with a focus on the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.  See details here.

February 24, 4:00pm – 5:30 pm (room C205): Christopher Preston Thompson (Music) has organized an event on Medieval Music in Performance.  See details here.

March 24, 11:30am-1:00pm (room 5105): Professor Jennifer Ball (Art History) will present at the Works-in-Progress series.

April 21, (Columbia University): The annual Inter-university Doctoral Consortium Medieval Studies Conference will take place at Columbia University.  Paul Holchak of English will present work on behalf of our Medieval Studies program, along with graduate students from all the other Consortium campuses.

The moderators of Friends of the Saints seminars in late antique, medieval and early modern hagiography and religious history at the CUNY Graduate Center are pleased to invite you to a “Byzantine Spring 2017” of talks on Byzantine religious/saintly subjects as follows:

Friday February 10, 7:00 pm: David A. Heayn (GC History Ph.D. Candidate): A Case study Byzantine monasticism in two Anatolian provinces, c. 500-700

Friday March 10, 7:00 pm: Professor John F. Haldon (Shelby Cullom Davis ’30 Professor of European History, Professor of Byzantine History and Hellenic Studies, Princeton University NJ): The Cults of Saint Theodore the General and Saint Theodore the Recruit of Euchaita in Byzantine Asia Minor

Friday April 28, 7:00 pm: Dr. Dina Boero (Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Hellenic Studies, Princeton University, NJ): The Cults of Stylite Saints Symeon the Elder and the Younger in Late Antique Syria

Friday May 19, 2017, 7:00 pm:  Dr. Brad Hostetler (Jane and Morgan Whitney Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Medieval Art and the Cloisters, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York): Provisional Title: Middle Byzantine Reliquaries
