This event celebrates the posthumous publication of Treasa McKernan’s book, Out of Her Bounds’: Women’s Lives in the Miracles of St. Thomas of Canterbury.

Late in life, this remarkable woman (also known as Barry’s mother) discovered a passion for medieval studies and spent several years, mostly on her own as very busy mother, teaching herself medieval French and Latin, and researching and then writing this book on the lives of women in late twelfth century England as inferred from the accounts of pilgrims to the shrine of St. Thomas Becket at Canterbury.

This work was cruelly interrupted by her sudden death in 2019.

Thanks to this trio, one medievalist and two astrophysicists, the book is done. Join us to hear about her book, and the story of the mother’s perseverance in doing this work as adult learner despite many hardships, as well as the story of how these two scientists helped get the book written.
