Dear First-Year Graduate Center Student,
The Teaching and Learning Center is pleased to announce the 2019 Teach@CUNY Summer Institute, which will take place at the Graduate Center over two sessions: June 3-5 and August 14-15, 2019. Attendees at the Institute will participate in a series of talks, workshops, and collaborative exercises designed to prepare them to teach in the Fall 2019 semester and beyond.
During the June session of the Institute, students will be introduced to the experience of teaching at CUNY, explore approaches to syllabus and assignment design and assessment, receive guidance on the integration of educational technology and library resources into courses, take part in conversations about teaching in their disciplines, and much more. A range of support will then be available throughout the summer for all attendees.
In our August meetings, participants will finalize syllabi, refine assignments and lesson plans, and workshop classroom lectures and activities. Attendees will also learn about the wealth of resources available at the Graduate Center and throughout CUNY to support teaching and learning.
Participants are expected to attend each day of the Institute from roughly 9-5pm. Those who attend all five days will be paid an honorarium of $750. Those who attend only the June sessions will be paid $500. All payments will be processed during the Fall 2019 semester.
The Teach@CUNY Summer Institute can accommodate up to 60 participants in Summer 2019, and priority for registration will go to current first-year students on Graduate Teaching or Science Fellowships. The TLC has reserved twenty slots for each of the three disciplinary clusters at the Graduate Center: the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and the Sciences. Students should register at the link below as soon as possible, and will be notified in early March if they are accepted into the Institute. Those who are not accepted into the Institute will be added to a waitlist.
For Graduate Center students who wish to attend the Institute but are not able eligible to do so, the Teaching and Learning Center will hold additional workshops before the start of the Fall 2019 semester.
